Our new Alpine centre is based in the magnificent surroundings of the Julien Alps at Bovec. With a combination of Italian charm and Austrian standards Slovenia has much to commend it and if, like us, you are tired of the usual crowded Alpine biking scene we assure you of a very pleasant surprise and some of the best mountain bike terrain Europe has to offer. The sheer beauty of Slovenia is breathtaking, with the ‘Emerald Trail’ area around Bovec no exception. Whether you want the quiet peaceful solitude of an idyllic mountain retreat or a livelier ‘ski village’ atmosphere, Bovec delivers. In addition to superb mountain biking the area has plenty of other extreme attractions from rafting, paragliding, kayaking and canyoning to fantastic mountain hikes. We are confident it will exceed your expectations.

Serious Alpine Biking With mountains towering above you at every turn, the range of biking opportunities is endless. From the many less demanding routes to the technically challenging single-track climbs and descents, Bovec provides a fantastic week’s biking for all but beginners to the sport. You’ll find mile upon mile of singletrack hidden in the trees clinging to the mountainside; many have never had fat tyres over them which for us is part of the big attraction! Further up the slopes, the tracks are steep, loose and very rocky providing a severe test even for the very best mountain bikers.

There are also the first signs of a freeride area under construction as well some purpose built trails under construction by an enthusiastic group of local mountain bikers. Rides can vary from 15km to 50km taking in net climbs of 350m to a strenuous 1800m depending on the nature and enthusiasm of the group. Numerous mountain lodges and cafes offer plenty of opportunity to enjoy some well earned rests along the way and with breathtaking scenery wherever you turn, there’s every excuse not to rush.

Accommodation and servicesWe are based at the ALP Hotel in the centre of Bovec, which like most Alpine resorts has several good bars and shops. This is a new hotel and rooms are pleasantly furnished, with private facilities, TV, mini bar etc. Accommodation includes bed, breakfast and evening meals. The bike workshop is also situated in the hotel and our guide/mechanics are on hand to assist you in the speedy repair of your bike should the unthinkable happen. There are also a couple of well-stocked local bike/outdoor specialist shops in the village.
